Trailer for 'Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods', First Theatrical Film in 17 Years
There was a time when I was a huge Dragon Ball Z fan, totally obsessed with Vegeta until he became less of a bad guy and more of a boring antihero. And it was probably around the time of the last animated Dragon Ball Z theatrical film seventeen years ago. And while I grew bored of the same old "villain arrives, beats everyone down until Goku levels up" storyline that was rarely deviated from, the franchise has stayed popular and now a new movie, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, is soon to hit theaters.
Taking place after the defeat of Majin Buu, the story sees the arrival of yet another extreme power who wants to test Goku's strength. This one is Beerus, an ancient god of destruction who challenges the Saiyan warrior and his friends, threatening to destroy their home planet. If you don't know your Friezas from your Piccolos this may all sound like nonsense but a new Dragonball Z movie in theaters after so long is a pretty big deal, and no Dragonball Evolution does not count. The events after Battle of Gods will be chronicled in a new video game, Dragon Ball Xenoverse (trailer included), and a manga continuation.
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods opens in 350 theaters for a very limited run on August 5th.
