Now that the casting on True Detective's second season is starting to come together with Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn confirmed, there are two major roles still left to be filled. One is the third male lead, which has Taylor Kitsch as the apparent frontrunner. The female lead is a bit messier, with everybody from Elisabeth Moss, Brit Marling, Rosario Dawson, Rachel McAdams, and many more in the mix. And now Deadline says you can throw Keira Knightley in there, too.
Knightley is the latest to join the field, circling the role of Ani Bezzerides, "a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol". McAdams, who seemed like the top choice for creator Nic Pizzolatto, may have a scheduling conflict keeping her out of the running.
It would be a change of pace and a grittier role than she's done since Domino years ago. True Detective is set to begin filming this fall.
