David Oyelowo is a Somali Pirate in Trailer for 'Default'

At last weekend's Urbanworld Film Festival, select attendees were treated to the first footage from Ava Duvernay's Selma (we recently broke it down on Addicted to Film), starring David Oyelowo as Martin Luther King Jr. The role should thrust Oyelowo into the spotlight and possibly into the Best Actor race, but he's also got high-profile appearances in Interstellar and A Most Violent Year on the way. One film he's got coming up that will probably fall under the radar is Default, the latest in the growing field of Somali piracy thrillers.

Directed by Colombian filmmaker Simon Brand with The L Word's Katherine Moennig co-starring, Default has Oyelowo as a Somali pirate who hijacks an American news crew's flight in hopes of making a statement. With Captain Phillips, A Hijacking, and Fishing without Nets occupying similar territory it will be tough for a small film like this to stand out, but Oyelowo looks tough in a rare chance to play the antagonist.

Default hits VOD and theaters on October 17th.
