New Trailer for 'Camp X-Ray' starring Kristen Stewart

At what point does every story about Kristen Stewart's career not begin with the word "Twilight" somewhere in there? Since I just did it obviously that time is not yet here, but with her current run of films she may finally be able to put that franchise far in the background, just as her co-star Robert Pattinson has been able to do. Her latest film is a complete change of pace for her, leading the Guantanamo Bay drama, Camp X-Ray, and after earning some solid notices at Sundance earlier this year (including from me), a new trailer for it has been released.

Here's the synopsis: A young woman joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and her small town roots. But she ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay instead, where her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees. A story of two people, on opposite sides of a war, struggling to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay. And in the process, they form an unlikely bond that changes them both.

The film was directed by Peter Sattler and co-stars Peyman Moaadi as the detainee. Moaadi was brilliant in the Oscar winning Iranian film, A Separation, and he makes for a complicated foil for Stewart in this film. To her credit she handles herself quite well, as this trailer shows.

Camp X-Ray hits VOD and theaters on October 17th.
