Shawn Levy to Build Up 'Minecraft'; Rob McElhenney to Direct 'Figment'

Having already seen how much audiences loved The Lego Movie, Warner Bros. has set their sights on another block-based film. Earlier this year they began development on Minecraft, based on the addictive video game played by millions, and now Shawn Levy is eying the director's chair. Levy is best known for directing the Night at the Museum films and Real Steel, and just opened the family dramedy This is Where I Leave You. [Deadline]

In news that comes as a pretty big surprise, Rob McElhenney, co-creator and star of FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, will make his feature directorial debut on the family adventure film, Figment. Legendary Pictures is behind this one, and they're basically responsible for mega-sized action movies like Pacific Rim, which coincidentally featured 'Sunny' co-star Charlie Day. Compared to E.T. and The Goonies, Figment is “a family action adventure about an imaginative boy and his family who are thrown for a loop when their greatest fears come to life.” Apparently McElhenney made quite the impression on Legendary with his pitch and they shelled out a hefty seven-figure deal to secure the rights.
