Anna Foerster to Direct the 'Source Code" Sequel You weren't Expecting

2011's Source Code was a big hit with critics and took Duncan Jones' career to the next level, opening the door for him to direct the Warcraft movie. But the heady sci-fi flick which starred Jake Gyllenhaal as a man who must relive the last 8 minutes of another's life repeatedly in hopes of stopping a disaster, didn't seem headed for any kind of a sequel. There's been little talk of one over the years, but now it's definitely happening and the talent on board suggests it's being done for the right reasons.

According to Variety, original writer Ben Ripley is coming back to pen Source Code 2 with no plot details available at this stage. Taking over as director is Anna Foerster, known for her second unit work alongside Roland Emmerich and for directing TV series like Outlander and Criminal Minds. She's a talented filmmaker but this is the biggest project she's undertaken.

So what about Gyllenhaal? There's no mention of him coming back but the Quantum Leap-esque nature of the story would certainly allow for it.
