Chill Out with a New Trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Inherent Vice'
The first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice was a little misleading. The plot was obscured by a thick veil of weed fog and a tone that was a little more Airplane! than the film actually is. Fortunately, a new trailer has arrived that reveals quite a bit more and gives a better read on the investigative hijinks in store.
Joaquin Phoenix stars in the Thomas Pynchon adaptation as private dick "Doc" Sportello who tries to find his ex-girlfriend's missing beau in-between puffs of pot smoke. Joanna Newsom's silky voice narrates and sets the groovy atmosphere for one of the oddest movies of the year. But is it up to Anderson's usual high standards? I'll just say it's one film I had to watch a couple of times to really get a bead on, and chances are you'll want to do the same.
Starring Josh Brolin, Reese Witherspoon, Katherine Waterston, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Martin Short, and Jena Malone, Inherent Vice opens in select cities this Friday, expanding on January 9th.
