'The Walking Dead' Spinoff Casts Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey

With AMC scoring record ratings for The Walking Dead's midseason finale, attention is now turning to their upcoming companion series, which has Dave Erickson as showrunner. A few weeks ago Adam Davidson came aboard as director, and now the first two cast members have been named.

According to Deadline, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey have come aboard the series, which is being referred to as "Cobalt". Dillane is best known for playing Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, while Debnam-Carey made her American debut in last summer's Into the Storm.

Details on the show remain slim but it will follow a different group from the one led by Rick Grimes, set in a different location and possible at a different point in the zombie apocalypse. The central focus will be on a male divorced teacher and a female guidance counselor. Dillane will play the woman's son who has faced past drug problems, while Debnam-Carey is her ambitious daughter.

The Walking Dead's creator Robert Kirkman will be on board to exec-produce and it will be interesting to see how he, Erickson, and Davidson plan to tell fresh stories on the same zombie nightmare.
