Kristen Wiig Buys Her Own Talk Show in First Trailer for 'Welcome to Me'
* So that trailer we revealed last month for Kristen Wiig's new comedy, Welcome to Me? Turns out it was removed because it was only a sales promo. Fortunately, the first official version has now been released along with a firm release date.*
She may be about to cross the streams in Paul Feig's Ghostbusters, but the bulk of Kristen Wiig's post-Bridesmaids career has been made up of indie features. The Skeleton Twins, Friends with Kids, Hateship Loveship, Girl Most Likely, and this year's Sundance film Nasty Baby are all on the small scale. And now Wiig has another film in Welcome to Me that probably won't be filling up the multiplexes, but still looks pretty charming and funny in its own right.
Wiig stars as Alice Klieg, a television-obsessed woman diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder who hits the lottery jackpot and decides the best thing to do is buy her own talk show. Her goofy personality helps make the show a success beyond her wildest dreams.
Directed by Shira Piven (Jeremy's sister), and co-starring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Wes Bentley, James Marsden, and Tim Robbins, Welcome to Me opens May 1st.
