Colin Trevorrow will Follow-Up 'Jurassic World' with Sci-Fi Thriller, 'Intelligent Life'

Making the jump from an indie darling like Safety Not Guaranteed to a big budget spectacle like Jurassic World is no easy feat, but director Colin Trevorrow seems to have made the transition smoothly. While the dinosaur flick doesn't arrive until this summer, he's already lined up his next project and it has a major studio backer in Dreamworks.

Trevorrow will direct a sci-fi thriller titled Intelligent Life, which is based on an earlier film called The Ambassador that he was developing with regular collaborator, Derek Connolly. The duo co-wrote the script and can count Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall as producers.

So what's the story about? Details are being kept quiet for now, but it's a "reconceived" take on The Ambassador, which followed “a UN worker in a department that was to represent humankind in the event of alien contact. The man falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien."

The Ambassador was meant to be Trevorrow's follow-up to Safety Not Guaranteed before he landed the Jurassic World gig. With Dreamworks on board, plus the director's higher profile, expect Intelligent Life to be a much bigger film than it would have been a couple of years ago. [THR]
