Hugh Jackman Says 'The Wolverine 3' is His Last Time as the X-Man

Let's not forget that when Hugh Jackman first took on the Wolverine role X-men, he wasn't Bryan Singer's first choice. That would have been Dougray Scott, but lucky for all of us that didn't work out because Jackman has defined the role ever since. Through seven movies he's defined the clawed Canadian mutant, even making us forget Wolverine is actually supposed to be 5'3" when Jackman is around 6'2". But now, with a sequel to The Wolverine on the way, it looks like Jackman is finally ready to move on.

Jackman released an image on Instagram showing his adamantium claws and the caption "one last time". Is he being serious? It's kind of hard to tell. Jackman's wishy-washy attitude towards playing Wolverine has become infamous over the years. Between movies he can always be counted on to claim it's his "last time" playing the character, only to return more jacked than ever. Most recently he said it just after 20th Century Fox green lit The Wolverine 3, and the timing wasn't a coincidence. Were they all just contract ploys? Probably, but it also may have had something to do with age creeping up on him. At 47 years old he may have finally had enough.

So we've got at least a couple of movies with him left. Wolverine should turn up in X-Men: Apocalypse, probably to help mentor the newly-cast Jubilee, and then it's The Wolverine 3 and....well, that may be the last time we see Wolverine pop some claw. With Jennifer Lawrence already on her way out, and Nicholas Hoult claiming the same, the X-men franchise is about to undergo some serious changes that fans may not be cool with.
