Is Static Part of CW's 'The Flash/Arrow' Spinoff?

There has been a great deal of fan confusion about The CW's planned spinoff of The Flash and Arrow. While it has become clear it will be a team-based show, the inclusion of villain Leonard Snart (Wentworth Miller), Ray Palmer/The Atom (Brandon Routh), professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) aka one half of Firestorm, and possibly the deceased Black Canary (Caity Lotz) has many wondering what the series will really entail. Direct answers may not be coming for awhile, but now we're getting some clues about the other roles that need to be filled.

TV Line have gotten their hands on a casting breakdown and the descriptions suggest at least two major characters could be part of the team. The site says these are all characters that have never been seen live-action before. The first character is referred to as The Traveler, Described as a “Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.

The speculation is that this character would be Rip Hunter, probably DC's greatest time traveler who has made it his mission to fix the timestream. But the description of his personality suggests it could also be Booster Gold, a character fans have wanted to see get his own series for awhile. The problem is that he's already been seen on TV in an episode of Smallville, so that would seem to rule him out.

The next character is simply referred to as "Female Warrior": This twentysomething Latina is pretty but unassuming, book smart and socially awkward by day. But by night, when she hears the cry of battle, her fury is ignited and she becomes a fierce warrior — so much so, that sometimes she can become a threat to others.

This one is pretty vague, so nailing down who she could really be is a problem. However the site thinks she could be Helena Kosmatos aka Fury, a character closely tied with Wonder Woman and the Amazonians. But really, this character could be just about anybody.

And then there's the one that has most fans excited, referred to "Mystery Hero": An African-American male in his twenties will fill the role of a regular, street smart guy who unexpectedly gains powers, and then, as part of the team, regularly quips about the insanity of the situations.

So what's got people so jazzed about this one? Because of the possibility it refers to Static aka Virgil Hawkins, a character who already has an extremely large fan following. Created by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, and Derek Dingle as part of the great and truly missed Milestone Imprint, Static was brought over into the DC Universe where his popularity continued as part of the Teen Titans. He was featured on the long-running Static Shock animated series. But there are also reports that Warner Bros. was looking to create live-action Static series with Reginald Hudlin (House Party, The Boondocks) on board. This could rule Static out as an option, or possibly those plans were folded into this new series.

It's possible this new show consists of many different characters from alternate/parallel universes, which would explain the presence of Rip Hunter and Black Canary.
