James Gunn Says Marvel won't Attend San Diego Comic-Con this Year
Someone just asked me a couple of days ago if I was attending San Diego Comic-Con this year, and my response was non-committal. If what Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn just said is accurate, my decision just got easier, and I suspect it will be that way for thousands of others.
Gunn hit Facebook and responded to a fan's question about attending Comic-Con by saying he might not be there, and Marvel certainly wouldn't be.
"I'm not sure. Marvel isn't going so I'm not sure I will either."
Uhhh, say what? Actually, this makes some degree of sense, even though it may suck for attendees. Let's not forget that Disney has their D23 conference this year, and Marvel may decide to shift their focus to that. If we learn anything about the new Spider-Man it will likely be unveiled there, rather than in the massive halls of Comic-Con's Hall H. It's just really bad timing given that so much is happening in the Marvel cinematic universe right now.
Then again, let's be honest and admit that Comic-Con hasn't been too exclusive lately. Sure, there are still some things that never hit the Internet but mostly everything that premieres there is online within minutes. And this does offer up an opportunity for Warner Bros. to show off Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and possibly first looks at other Justice League heroes.
