'The Expendables' TV Series in the Works with Iconic Small Screen Stars

The Expendables probably lends itself to TV better than it appears at first glance. The mission-based action flicks are basically like extended episodes of The A-Team, only with all your favorite (old) vintage movie stars carrying guns bigger than their wobbly biceps. Apparently, Fox agrees that The Expendables could be a small screen hit, too, because they're developing a TV series exec-produced by Sylvester Stallone.

Fox and Lionsgate TV have an Expendables "event series" in the works with Greg Coolidge (Ride Along) and Kirk Ward writing the script and Shane Brennan (NCIS: LA) exec-producing. The plan is to reunite a bunch of iconic TV stars to form a new team of military heroes out to stop a terrorist. So who could that mean exactly? Kevin Sorbo? Scott Bakula's busy, so is Kiefer Sutherland if 24 comes back again, who else? Maybe Chuck Norris and Kelsey Grammer, both Expendables alums with plenty of small screen experience, can be convinced to reprise their roles? You wouldn't tune in every week for the continuing adventures of Walker Texas Ranger and Frasier Crane? It would give the show a sense of Expendables continuity, which I'm sure is what fans of the lunk-headed movies are really concerned about.

Despite The Expendables 3 being the lowest-grossing of the franchise, Lionsgate is looking for new ways to expand the brand. Two more movies are apparently on the way, plus female spinoff The Expendabelles
