This May Be Our First Look at Battle Cat in 'Masters of the Universe'

A feature film based on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has been in the works longer than the hit cartoon was on the air in the '80s. A number of writers have tried to crack the script but it was Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) who has given it the latest shot, and last year a shortlist of directors emerged that included Rian Johnson, Andres Muschietti, plus Phil Lord and Chris Miller. None have officially come aboard, but the project may be moving along faster than we've been clued into as a Sony/Colombia Pictures exec may have revealed an image of a key character in the film.

DeVon Franklin, a Senior VP of Production at Sony/Columbia Pictures, tweeted out this image that appears to be concept art of He-Man's loyal, armored sidekick, Battle Cat. Is it cool? Hell yeah, and Battle Cat looks as badass as we might have imaged. But does anybody else find it weird that a random suit would just put something like this out there? It's not as if there has been a ton of movement on the film outside of a completed script some months back, and to put out art without first having a director seems suspicious.

Maybe he's doing it now because He-Man features prominently in Neill Blomkamp's Chappie? Probably not but that reason is as good as any other.

So my radar is up on this one. Maybe if he reveals an image of Battle Cat's cowardly alter ego, Cringer, it will change my mind.
