First Trailer for Oren Peli's Long-Delayed Horror 'Area 51'

A whopping six years have passed since Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli first started on what was to be his follow-up, the low-budget horror Area 51. Then.....well, we got nothin'. Peli has certainly been busy in his role as a producer on other films, but as for Area 51 it's only just hitting theaters next month and the first trailer has been released. So what the heck took so long? Was the wait worth it?

The found footage horror follows a group of friends who stupidly decide it's a good idea to break into Area 51, where the government supposedly houses all kinds of things too freaky for public consumption. Basically this looks like Chernobyl Diaries, which Peli produced and wrote, but it's a cheapie with no big names and will probably make a ton of money relative to its $5M budget.

Area 51 hits theaters and VOD on May 15th. [TheFilmStage]
