Always desperate to find their next franchise, Sony Pictures was talking up a sequel to Denzel Washington's The Equalizer before the film had even opened. Banking $190M and earning fairly solid reviews in the process has given them more than enough reason to push ahead, and now it's official.
Sony has confirmed The Equalizer 2 is in the works with Washington expected to return and equalize the sh*t out of some fools. The R-rated thriller was directed by Antoine Fuqua and co-starred Chloe Grace Moretz, but it's unclear if either will come back. Washington has already worked with Fuqua on Training Day and will again on The Magnificent Seven remake, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them reteam once more. Meanwhile, Moretz's role was pretty insignificant and could be dropped without it making much of an impact.
