First 'The Hateful Eight' Image Features Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Kurt Russell

Finally we've got something from Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight to get excited about. The promos we've seen thus far have been disappointing, revealing nothing of Tarantion's Western follow-up to Django Unchained. But now EW's cover has given us the first look at stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Kurt Russell.

The film is set just after the Civil War and follows a colorful crew of rogues and who are trapped together in a waystation during a blizzard. Jackson and Russell have worked with Tarantino before, while Leigh, who plays "The Prisoner", is working with him for the first time. Others on board are Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Zoe Bell, Walton Goggins, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, and Channing Tatum in a role that has yet to be revealed. Expect Tarantino to pull from his favorite Westerns as a reference point, like Eugene O'Neill's play The Iceman Cometh which was adapted into a 1973 film,...

Tarantino: “For me it has more of a Western Iceman Cometh kind of vibe about it. A bunch of guys in a room who can’t trust each other. That wasn’t a marching order when I sat down to write the script, but pretty quickly I realized this is kind of a nice coming-full-circle.”

Obviously a reference to his directorial debut, Reservoir Dogs, and The Hateful Eight may turn out to be a cult classic just like that one. The film hits theaters on Christmas Day.
