Legendary Cinematographer Roger Deakins will Shoot 'Blade Runner' Sequel

One of the many reasons Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners was so devastating was the camerawork by legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins. The director's latest film, the crime thriller Sicario, was also shot by Deakins and it's a collaboration that thankfully will continue on the upcoming Blade Runner sequel.

Deakins has agreed to shoot Blade Runner 2, which Villeneuve will direct. Deakins' credits include Skyfall, Fargo, The Shawshank Redemption, and many more beautifully-shot masterpieces. He's been nominated for an Oscar nine times, most recently for Angelina Jolie's Unbroken. He was pretty much the only good thing about that one. That he'll be lending his talents to his is at least one reason to be excited for Ridley Scott's sequel of his 1982 sci-fi classic. Harrison Ford is set to reprise his original role and be joined by Ryan Gosling. The story, penned by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, takes place many years after the last film concluded.

Filming kicks off in the summer of 2016.
