Matt Bomer Rides with 'The Magnificent Seven'; Chris O'Dowd Joins 'Can You Ever Forgive Me'
Matt Bomer may be hitching a ride with the guys in Magic Mike XXL, but after he's saddling up with The Magnificent Seven. Bomer has joined Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Jason Momoa, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Wagner Moura, and Haley Bennett in the Antoine Fuqua-directed remake of the 1960 Western classic. John Lee Hancock (Saving Mr. Banks) and Nic Pizzolatto (True Detective) wrote the script which begins when a woman hires a band of outlaws to defend a poor mining town from a gold baron. Bomer's role sounds pretty small, playing the woman's husband who tries to stand up for the town. [THR]
Can You Ever Forgive Me marks Nicole Holofcener's anticipated follow-up to Enough Said, and she's already landed Oscar-winner Julianne Moore for the female lead. Now Chris O'Dowd is joining the cast of the forgery drama, which is based on Lee Israel's 2008 memoir. Israel was a celebrated author before her career hit the skids and she turned to forging letters from deceased celebrities and selling them to pay the bills. She kept it up until the FBI caught wind of it, then she took the scam even further. O'Dowd's next film is another dramatic turn, playing reporter David Walsh in Stephen Frears' Lance Armstrong biopic. Holofcener most recently wrote the screenplay for Amy Berg's crime drama, Every Secret Thing. [Variety]
