Pete Travis to Direct Rachel Weisz in Kidnapping Drama 'Snatchback'

While it's looking less and less likely we'll ever see a true sequel to Dredd, director Pete Travis is moving on to what he'll do next. He's moving from the world of graphic novels to a real life crime story in Snatchback, which will star Rachel Weisz.

Weisz has agreed to headline the kidnapping drama which is based on the true story of Maureen Dabbagh, whose 3-year-old daughter was abducted and taken to the Middle East by her Syrian ex-husband.  It was 17 years before Maureen was able to communicate with her daughter again. She went on to write a book on the subject of parental kidnapping.

Travis' film is going change things up, though. Maureen will, for some reason, be a mercenary (!!!) who takes on dangerous missions in the Middle East helping people recover kidnapped children, while at the same time searching for her own.  Uh, okay.

Whatever. Filming begins later this year. [ScreenDaily]
