John Krokidas scored a major coup for his directorial debut Kill Your Darlings by snagging Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan, and a number of other talented stars to play Beat Generation writers. For awhile now he's been trying to reunite with DeHaan and Radcliffe for his follow-up, which would center on political powerhouses Karl Rove and Lee Water, and now the film is finally moving forward.
Funding has been secured for Young Americans, and one has to wonder if Krokidas altered to title to make investing in it more palatable. Originally titled College Republicans then Young Republicans, the Wes Jones-scripted film is set in 1973 and "the story finds aspiring politician Karl Rove (DeHaan) running a dirty campaign for national College Republican Chairman under the guidance of campaign manager Lee Atwater (Radcliffe). The duo take a spirited road trip to drum up support for Rove’s candidacy.” Amanda Seyfried co-stars as Kate King, a rival and femme fatal who threatens to beat the boys at their own game.
This could be a doozy of a film, especially for those who are familiar with all of Atwater and Rove's political
