Chiwetel Ejiofor Conjures Baron Mordo Role in 'Doctor Strange'
Remember at the beginning of the year when Chiwetel Ejiofor was rumored to be up for a role in Marvel's Doctor Strange? While it would have been cool to see him as the Sorcerer Supreme himself, the lack of any confirmation made it unclear if he was in the movie at all. Of course, Benedict Cumberbatch was signed to play Strange, and now not only do we know Ejifor is definitely in the film, but we know his role.
According to Deadline, Ejiofor will play Baron Mordo, who is typically a villain but will undergo a character overhaul. Instead he'll be a combination of characters from the Doctor Strange comics, and not necessarily a total heel. So between this and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One we're seeing Marvel play around with the Doctor Strange mythos in fun ways. Mordo was a student of the Ancient One just like Strange, only he tried to kill his mentor and the two became mortal enemies.
Think about that cast, though. Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Tilda Swinton. If that doesn't get you excited for Doctor Strange, what will? Look for the film to open on November 4th 2016 directed by Scott Derrickson.
