When it became clear that Alicia Vikander would finally have to turn down something rather than starring in every movie under the sun, the first film she dropped was James Ponsoldt's tech thriller, The Circle. Immediately named as a possible replacement was Emma Watson, and it looks like she's got the job.
Watson is joining the previously cast Tom Hanks in the adaptation of Dave Eggers' novel, which Ponsoldt will pen himself. She'll play a young woman working for a giant, Google-esque tech giant known as "The Circle", with Hanks as its mysterious, charismatic co-founder.
Filming on The Circle begins in September.
