James Wan Confirmed to Direct 'Aquaman' and Live-Action 'Robotech'
Life is good for James Wan right now. The creator of horror franchises like Saw and Insidious broke away from the genre with Furious 7, and the massive box office results speak for themselves. Now he's continuing his run of blockbuster projects as he's officially confirmed to direct Jason Momoa in Aquaman, plus he's locked down the directing job on the forever-developing live-action Robotech.
Warner Bros. made the announcement today, confirming Wan for the Aquaman job after he was rumored to be the frontrunner some weeks back. He'll direct from a screenplay by Kurt Johnstad (300), whose script apparently beat out the one being developed in concert by Will Beall. Aquaman is expected to be debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before appearing in Justice League and his own film on July 27th 2018.
Then there's Robotech, which has been in the works for years with a number of different talent passing through. Wan will take over the film based on the classic and still popular anime series from the '80s that centers on a group of human rebels who use futuristic technology to battle against an alien invasion.
No word on when Robotech could begin filming but we may be waiting awhile.
