Andy Muschietti Replaces Cary Fukunaga on Stephen King's 'It'
For quite awhile True Detective director Cary Fukunaga had been planning a two-part feature based on Stephen King's It. However, budget cutting at New Line Cinema was bad enough to drive him away just as production was set to begin, leaving the studio back at square one. But now his replacement has been found and it's a director with plenty of horror chops to go around.
According to THR it will be Andy Muschietti, director of the hit Jessica Chastain-led horror Mama, who will take over on It. Production was to have begun last month but now the plan is to bring in a new writer to work with Muschietti in crafting a new vision. Unfortunately, the delay could mean that Will Poulter is out as Pennywise the Clown due to scheduling conflicts. He could eventually return once things are back up and running.
It also looks as if Muschietti will no longer be directing Universal's remake of The Mummy, which was to be part of their "monsters franchise".
