Don Cheadle's 'Miles Ahead' to Debut at the New York Film Festival

During his off hours from playing War Machine, Don Cheadle has been obsessed with his passion project, Miles Ahead, a film on legendary jazz musician Miles Davis. In the works for years, Cheadle kept the studio element out of the production, turning to a crowds-sourcing effort to gather the needed funds to complete the film, promising that it would be anything but your standard biopic. Now, finally, the film is finished and ready to make its debut.

Miles Ahead will be the closing night film at the New York Film Festival, which begins on September 25th with Robert Zemeckis' 3D-thriller, The Walk, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Cheadle will obviously play Davis, with Ewan McGregor, Emayatzy Corinealdi, and Keith Stanfield rounding out the talented cast. And in keeping with Cheadle's promise, the story will center on a heist planned by Davis and a Rolling Stone journalist to recover some recordings to help reignite his career.

There's still no word on a theatrical run, but if the film does well at NYFF it should help stir up interest. Here are a few words by Cheadle from the festival's press release:

“I am happy that the selection committee saw fit to invite us to the dance. It’s very gratifying that all the hard work that went into the making of this film, from every person on the team, has brought us here. Miles’ music is all-encompassing, forward-leaning, and expansive. He changed the game time after time, and New York is really where it all took off for him. Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center... feels very ‘right place, right time.’ Very exciting.”
