Following the $1B success of Skyfall, Sam Mendes wasn't exactly eager to come back for another James Bond film. In fact, he turned the job directing Spectre down on a few occasions, even going so far as to say the prospect of directing it made him "physically ill". But he sucked it up and took the job, anyway, putting any other projects he wanted to make on the backburner. Well, now that Spectre is completed, Mendes is looking forward to moving on from 007's world completely. He tells BBC News...
"I said no to the last one and then ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends...But I do think this is probably it...I don't think I could go down that road again. You do have to put everything else on hold."
Mendes is definitely leaving himself a little wiggle room there, perhaps because he changed his mind the last time. There's every expectation that Spectre will be just as lucrative as Skyfall, and if that happens producers are going to throw a lot of money at him to stay. They could try and convince him to stick around until Daniel Craig decides to hang it up.
The director also revealed that the Bond theme song has been finished, although he neglected to say who record the track. Adele famously performed the title track for Skyfall in 2012.
"I can say that the song's been recorded and it's fantastic and I'm very excited about it. You won't have to wait long."
Spectre hits theaters on November 6th.
