If you're one of those people who likes their zombie entertainment taken deadly serious, it might be in your best interests to stick with TV and The Walking Dead or this weekend's debut of Fear the Walking Dead (still a terrible title). Because over on the feature side the undead are basically a walking a punchline. There have been a rash of zombie comedies like Life After Beth, Warm Bodies, and Burying the Ex, all presenting brain-eaters as something to be a laughed at rather than feared. And you can add one more with Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, which has just unveiled a new red band trailer.
The first clip for the film emerged last month right around Comic-Con time, but this obviously gives a much deeper look at what promises to be a pretty silly comedy. Directed by Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) with Logan Miller, Tye Sheridan, Halston Sage, Sarah Dumont, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Cloris Leachman, and David Koechner starring, the film centers on a boy scout troop who must defend their town from the undead. And that's pretty much it, but here's the synopsis anyway:
Three scouts and lifelong friends join forces with one badass cocktail waitress to become the world’s most unlikely team of heroes. When their peaceful town is ravaged by a zombie invasion, they’ll fight for the badge of a lifetime and put their scouting skills to the test to save mankind from the undead.
This one still looks as if it's aiming for a Zombieland vibe, and since there will never be a sequel to that film audiences may turn out to see this, instead. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse opens October 30th.
