Billy Crudup joins '20th Century Women'; Rosemarie DeWitt goes to 'La La Land'; Joey King is 'Going in Style'
Billy Crudup is the first guy to be cast in 20th Century Women, the next film from Beginners director, Mike Mills. He joins Greta Gerwig, Elle Fanning, and Annette Bening in the film which is set in 1979 and follows a single mother trying to teach her son about right and wrong. Crudup will play a "hunky handyman type" who rents out the bungalow behind the house and charms the women with his sweet side. Crudup can currently be seen leading The Stanford Prison Experiment, and has a role in Thomas McCarthy's Catholic Church scandal drama, Spotlight. [Deadline]
Joining Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, and JK Simmons in Damien Chazelle's musical drama La La Land is Rosemarie DeWitt. The Poltergeist and Your Sister's Sister actress will play Gosling's sister in the contemporary musical about a pianist and actress who fall in love in L.A. but find the cutthroat nature of fame getting in the way. John Legend has also entered negotiations for a role that will likely have him jamming with Gosling. [Deadline/Variety]
Joey King (The Dark Knight Rises) has joined Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin, and Michael Caine in the remake of Going in Style. The film will be the next directorial effort by Zach Braff, and is an update of the 1979 caper film that centered on a trio of retirees who decide to become criminals to spice up their boring lives. King will play Caine's granddaughter. She also starred in Braff's last film, the crowd-funded Wish I Was Here. She'll be seen next in Stonewall, the gay rights drama directed by Roland Emmerich.
