Christian Bale Races to Michael Mann's 'Ferrari' Film

Does anyone still remember Michael Mann's last film? It was the hacker thriller Blackhat which opened early this year and was quickly forgotten despite having Chris "Thor" Hemsworth in the lead. So while that didn't go as planned, the director will next pick up on a project he's been developing for over a decade; a film based on auto racing magnate, Enzo Ferrari, and he's just landed his Public Enemies star,Christian Bale.

Bale is set to star in Ferrari, a passion project of Mann's that finally seems to be coming together. Brock Yates' book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races serves as the basis for the screenplay by Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job) and David Rayfield (Out of Africa) that will be set in 1957, a tumultuous year for the legendary race car driver and entrepreneur who created one of the most recognizable auto companies in the world. The search is on for an actress to play the female lead as there will also be a love story to be told.

Expect this one to be a hot property on the festival sales floor this fall, and if all goes as planned shooting will begin next summer.  [Deadline]
