James Franco and Bryan Cranston to Star in Comedy 'Why Him?'

James Franco is currently hard at work on his latest ambitious directorial effort, an adaptation of John Steinbeck's In Dubious Battle. Part of the impressive cast for that is Bryan Cranston, who has been filling up his post-Breaking Bad career with a mix of studio blockbusters like Godzilla and character dramas like Trumbo. But Cranston's too funny of a guy to stay away from comedy for long, and so he'll reunite with Franco for Why Him?

Directed by John Hamburg (I Love You, Man) from a script he co-wrote with Ian Helfer based on an original draft by Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors), the holiday comedy centers on a Midwestern dad who is in competition for his daughter's affections with her tech billionaire boyfriend. Presumably, Franco wold be the boyfriend and Cranston the dad, although it would be interesting if the roles were reversed.

No word on a start date but it appears Cranston and Franco are quickly becoming pals, and we could be seeing a lot more of them as a duo. [Variety]
