Marvel's 'Luke Cage' Series Adds Emmy Winner Alfre Woodard

While you can currently see Emmy winning actress Alfre Woodard in the gambling drama, Mississippi Grind, she's ready to bet on a different kind of role entirely. According to Deadline, Woodard has joined Netflix's Luke Cage series as a nemesis to the titular steel-skinned hero.

Mike Colter stars as Luke "Power Man" Cage, who will first be introduced in the AKA Jessica Jones series alongside Krysten Ritter. It's possible that Woodard's character, named Minetta, is actually a version of Black Mariah, a drug dealer and crime lord who battled Cage and his buddy Iron Fist in the comics. But that seems unlikely based on the character's show description, which has her as a "powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life."

Exec-produced by showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, Luke Cage premieres in 2016 and then will be followed by an Iron Fist series.
