New IMAX Trailer for 'Everest' goes to terrifying new Heights

Not every film demands to be seen in IMAX, but Everest is the kind of soaring spectacle that the technology was absolutely designed for. Directed by Baltasar Kormakur and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, John Hawkes, Josh Brolin, and many more, the film follows two separate expeditions to scale the tallest mountain in the world, and the journey home that proves to be even more dangerous.

The new IMAX trailer doesn't go into the characters as much as it does the treacherous nature of their mission: “Human beings simply aren’t built to function at the cruising altitude of a 747".  The dizzying heights are only one of many potentially lethal threats that come with scaling Everest, as literally every move could lead to a frigid demise. Kormakur has some experience with survival thrillers from his excellent work on The Deep a few years ago, but this is his biggest effort yet and he seems to have adapted to the blockbuster style pretty well. Everest looks like the kind of film that everyone will want to see in IMAX and probably in 3D, as well. Here's the official synopsis:

Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.

Also starring Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley and Emily Watson, Everest opens September 18th.
