Ridley Scott Explains Why 'Prometheus 2' was Titled 'Alien: Paradise Lost'
When Ridley Scott revealed Alien: Paradise Lost was the title of his Prometheus sequel, it took a lot of people by surprise. The first film seemed to make a concerted effort not to tie-in to Scott's Alien franchise, and there was no indication further films would, either. That combined with Neill Blomkamp developing his own sequel set between the original movies and Scott appeared to be going in a completely different direction. Somewhere along the way those plans have changed, and now Scott is explaining the connection he's making and why he chose that title. He tells HeyUGuys...
"Well, because we're heading back to why and how and when the beast was invented. We'll go back into the back door of the very first Alien that I did thirty years ago."
Scott has previously stated there could be as many as three sequels, with the next one exploring the origins of the "engineers", the beings who may have been responsible for the creation of human life. While Scott has also said we wouldn't be seeing the original H.R. Geiger creature designs, it stands to reason they'll show up at some point if he's really hoping to tie into 1979's Alien.
Alien: Paradise Lost is expected to open some time in 2017.
