While we've seen a couple of traditional takes on the Western genre recently (ironically by foreign filmmakers), the preferred way to keep them box office relevant has been by tweaking the formula. Well, how about throwing in some cannibals? Will that shake things up a little bit? S. Craig Zahler, the director behind the horror Western with the awesome title, Bone Tomahawk, sure hopes so.
The first trailer for Bone Tomahawk has been released and it's as violent and gruesome as we could have hoped. Starring a crazy cast that includes Kurt Russell (who will later appear in The Hateful Eight), Richard Jenkins, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, David Arquette, Sean Young (!!!), Sid Haig (well yeah he WOULD be here), and Fred Melamed, the film centers on a sheriff (Russell) who rustles up a few cowboys to rescue a woman from a bunch of cannibals. Let the eating of humans begin.
Bone Tomahawk hits theaters and VOD on October 23rd.
