Peyton Reed is Back to Direct Marvel's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'
Peyton Reed came a bit late to the Marvel party, like seven or eight years late. He took over directing Ant-Man when Edgar Wright after spending quite a long time developing it, and the transition wasn't easy as fans rebelled over the change. But Reed took it all in stride, and while the film was one of Marvel's lowest earners it can still be seen as a success, which is why they're anxious to bring the director back.
Reed has entered talks to direct the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will pair up stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne. There was some doubt over a follow-up but Ant-Man performed well enough and received strong reviews, plus both title characters are expected to play major roles in the MCU. Reed has an enthusiasm for the characters and he proved himself to be a reliable Marvel guy. Don't be surprised if he sticks around for a while just like the Russo Brothers have. After making his breakout directorial debut with the cult favorite Bring It On, Reed is now part of the most efficient movie machine in Hollywood. Not too bad.
A writer has yet to be named but don't be surprised if Marvel puts it back in the hands of Rudd and Adam McKay. Ant-Man and the Wasp has been set for release on July 6th 2018. [THR]
