Steve Zahn is known mostly for comedic supporting roles, usually as an amiable sidekick-type character. That type of role doesn't seem like a natural fit for Matt Reeves' War for the Planet of the Apes, but with Zahn coming on board now maybe there will be some simian comic relief.
Note the title change, also, as Reeves recently revealed the film is called War for the Planet of the Apes rather than War of the Planet of the Apes. It's a change that makes sense and makes this upcoming battle between apes and humans resemble the epic conclusion it's meant to be.
As for Zahn, he'll be donning the motion-capture suit to play an ape, likely fighting alongside Caesar who will once again be brought to life by the great Andy Serkis. So far there are only two new live-action roles that have been filled with Woody Harrelson playing a villain known as "The Colonel". Gabriel Chavarria was cast as one of the human characters some weeks back, while Amiah Miller (Best Friends Whenever) recently joined.
