Nicolas Winding Refn's 'The Neon Demon' Heads to Amazon

Move over, Netflix; Amazon Studios is right on your tail. In the battle of competing streaming services Netflix definitely has the leg up, especially with Beasts of No Nation possibly earning an Oscar nomination soon. But let's not forget Amazon has projects by Spike Lee, Woody Allen, and more on the way. And they've just scored a major deal at the American Film Market to distribute Nicolas Winding Refn's feminist horror, The Neon Demon.

Amazon Studios has announced they've picked up the film's rights with plans to stream it after a theatrical run next summer, so those who hope to see it the traditional way will have that chance. Refn directed and co-wrote the film with Mary Laws, casting Elle Fanning, Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, and Bela Heathcoat in the Los Angeles-set story of an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles where her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will go to any lengths to get what she has. And judging by this new image, she's willing to shed some blood to stop them.

This is nothing but good news for Refn fans and for Amazon. Let's just hope this is a proper comeback after the underwhelming Only God Forgives.
