Although an essential companion to the more flashy goings-on at Sundance, the Slamdance Film Fesival doesn't get nearly the same level of attention. We barely cover it here on this site, despite it boasting some of the more interesting features of either festival. As the 2016 lineup has now been released, once again you won't find many big name actors or directors, but there's one film that has caught my eye because it stars one of my personal favorites: Rinko Kikuchi.
The Pacific Rim and The Brothers Bloom star leads a film titled Last Summer, in which Kikuchi plays a mother on a luxury yacht spending the last four days with her 6-year-old son before she gives up custody. If there's one movie that will get me to break away from the comfortable press screenings to catch it will be this one. The rest of the lineup is below.
