Spike Lee Responds to Critics with Totally Different 'Chi-Raq' Trailer

"Chi-Raq is not a comedy. Chi-Raq is a satire, and there's a difference between humor and comedy."

What's the saying? "If you're explaining, then you're losing"? Spike Lee has taken some heat over the first trailer for his Chicago-set film, Chi-Raq, with many claiming that it trivializes the very real epidemic of gang violence. And truthfully, the trailer is a little over the top. Despite his feeling the need to explain himself ahead of this brand new trailer he just released, the fact that Lee has given it a more serious tone suggests he's taking the criticsm to heart.

Or he just wants to have it both ways. Let's be honest, he could use a hit and probably doesn't want to piss anybody off.

The film stars Nick Cannon, Samuel L. Jackson, Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes, John Cusack, Jennifer Hudson, and more. Here's the synopsis: After the murder of a Child by a stray bullet, a group of women led by Lysistrata organize against the on-going violence in Chicago’s Southside creating a movement that challenges the nature of race, sex, and violence in America and around the world.

Chi-Raq hits theaters and Amazon Prime on December 4th.
