"The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world. Son of Krypton vs. Bat of Gotham", sneers Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) in the new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which debuted tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live. While the villain likely wasn't singing the praises of heroes Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck), Warner Bros. hopes fans will see it for the epic showdown that it is.
The latest footage reveals more of the central plot, a fact which has already angered some who want the storyline kept under wraps. The simple answer is to not watch the trailer, but then they'd be missing out on an appearance by the all-powerful Doomsday, plus the arrival of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) just in time to save the guys' bacon from getting fried.
While much has also been made of the grim tone Zack Snyder has chosen there are flashes of humor here, notably from Luthor who seems slightly Joker-ish in his temperament. Will it all come together as planned? We'll find out when the film opens next year on March 25th.
