A Punisher Netflix Series Could Be On The Way
When it was confirmed The Punisher would be coming to the second season of Marvel's Daredevil, barely any time went by before rumors he would be spun off into his own solo series. The violent anti-hero hasn't had much luck on the big screen, but Netflix is reportedly very happy with what they've seen of Jon Bernthal's version on the small screen, and they're ready to see more.
According to TV Line, Netflix and Marvel are "this close" to green lighting a Punisher spinoff series, this a full two months before the character officially makes his debut as part of Daredevil season two. Bernthal will be the fourth actor to play gun-toting vigilante Frank Castle, following Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, and Ray Stevenson. If this is truly happening then it's in very early stages right now with no showrunner or writers on board yet.
Last year a rumor surfaced that Netflix was eyeing potential series for Punisher, Blade, Ghost Rider, and more. All of these characters are more violent than what Marvel allows on the big screen or on Agents of Shield. That's not a problem on the streaming service, however, as we've seen with Daredevil which can get pretty brutal sometimes. The body count is only going to go up in season two when it arrives on March 18th.
