Motion Poster For 'Pete's Dragon' Teases The Invisible Companion

Disney has done a lot reimagining many of their animated classics into blockbuster live-action films, and it's a practice that isn't going away any time soon. But now they're extending that to one of their older films that many love, but can hardly be seen as a classic. The 1977 hybrid musical Pete's Dragon is being remade with, surprisingly, Ain't Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery, and a new motion poster teases the titular imaginary friend.

The image can be seen in two ways, one standard poster and the motion version, but both only offer the barest glimpse of the dragon. The version of the story Lowery is putting together won't be a musical, but the bare plot remains mostly intact. Starring Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Karl Urban, Oona Laurence, and Wes Bentley, with Craig Hall and Oakes Fegley (Fort Bliss) as Pete, the film centers on a young boy who befriends an invisible dragon.

Pete's Dragon opens August 12th. Look out for the first trailer which should arrive this weekend.
