'Beetlejuice 2' Confirmed? Not So Fast....
Say "Beetlejuice" as many times as you want, that doesn't make a sequel any more of a reality. While talk of a follow-up has been going on for years, and has had stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder expressing interest in a return, the rumor mill exploded yesterday with an apparent confirmation by Tim Burton. The report from Showbizspy (really, people? Showbizspy??), totally second-hand by the way, went like this...
"The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael. We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming."
Here's the thing: Burton didn't say that. The director's reps sprung into action and denied everything, saying “Tim Burton did not confirm 'Beetlejuice 2' as the movie is not in development. Tim’s focus is entirely on ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children’ set for a September 30, 2016 release and developing ‘Dumbo.’”
Soooooo....ooops? That said, we do know that Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg have worked on a script for Beetlejuice 2, but that doesn't mean the project is a go. In fact, the longer this drags on the less likely it is to happen, and there are probably a lot of people hoping that's the case (like yours truly) and the original can be left to stand on its own.
