A new comedy from Woody Allen is pretty much an annual occurrence, and right along with it is his debuting the film at Cannes. He's done so for thirteen films at this point and in a couple of months he'll be back on the Croisette to premiere the fourteenth, Café Society, which has been chosen as the opening film of the festival. Along with the announcement comes the first look at the film's stars, Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg.
Possibly taking its cues from the 1939 rom-com that starred Fred MacMurray and Madeleine Carroll, the film tells the "story of a young man who arrives in Hollywood during the 1930s hoping to work in the film industry, falls in love, and finds himself swept up in the vibrant cafe society that defined the spirit of the age.” Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeannie Berlin, Corey Stoll, Anna Camp, Paul Schneider, and Steve Carell co-star, with Oscar-winner Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now) on cinematography.
The film will open in France on May 11th to coincide with the start of Cannes, while Amazon plans to release it stateside later this year.
