Daisy Ridley Confirms 'Tomb Raider' Talks While John Boyega Takes Credit For It
There were many great things that emerged from Star Wars: the Force Awakens, and two of them involve its breakout star, Daisy Ridley. One is the franchise finally leaning on a female lead to walk the Jedi path, and the other is Ridley's friendship with co-star, John Boyega. We've seen how they supported one another during shooting, and it looks like they'll be helping one another's careers for the long haul. Ridley's name recently surfaced for the Lara Croft role in the Tomb Raider reboot, and in a conversation with THR she not only confirms negotiations, but Boyega admits his part in making them happen.
“I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it',” Ridley said. She then added, “Absolutely, I’m trying to fill up my calendar."
While she has not yet been offered the role, it sounds like something Ridley definitely wants. She'd be stepping into, arguably, the defining female action role of the last 20 years....at least before Star Wars' Rey came along. Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft in a pair of successful movies, but this latest version will be different and Boyega thinks Ridley would be perfect. In fact, he says it was his idea for her to try for it in the first place...
“I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version/ But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be."
Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is directing from a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Transformers 5) that has yet to be completed.
