Coming off the acclaim he received for Steve Jobs, Danny Boyle is looking to try something completely different. No, not Trainspotting 2 which supposedly begins filming in a couple of months, but a potential adaptation of Broadway musical, Miss Saigon, a project that has been in the works for quite some time.
According to Baz Bamigboye, Boyle has entered talks to direct a big screen take on Miss Saigon, based the hit stage show about the doomed romance between an American GI and a Vietnamese bargirl during the Vietnam War. A film adaptation has been in the works since 2009 and as recently as 2013 Lee Daniels had been planning to be at the helm of it. Just last month the original's music producer, Cameron Mackintosh, was telling fans at the London revival that a film was close to happening, and it appears he wasn't lying.
This is yet another major project for Boyle, who also recently agreed to direct the FX event series, The Trust, penned by Slumdog Millionaire's Simon Beaufoy. That one tells the story of the wealthy Getty family, whose oil fortune is threatened when the son is kidnapped by the mafia. With so much on Boyle's plate does that mean we can expect his Trainspotting sequel to be delayed, or perhaps not happen at all?
