It's been a couple of years since Tim Burton's last film, Big Eyes, an attempt to craft an Oscar contender out of his offbeat sensibilities. While it received generally good reviews, the film was largely forgotten come awards time and did nothing at the box office, continuing a string of failures that includes Frankenweenie and Dark Shadows. But now Burton is back with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and it's as weird as the title promises.
Starring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Chris O’Dowd, Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp, Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson, the film is based on the popular book by Ransom Riggs, and centers on a kid who discovers a refuge for...well, peculiar children. Each of them has some kind of unique power, and basically this looks like Tim Burton's version of a superhero movie like the X-Men. Here's the official synopsis:

When Jake discovers clues to a mystery that spans alternate realities and times, he uncovers a secret refuge known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Jake must figure out who is real, who can be trusted, and who he really is.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (that's going to be annoying to type) opens September 30th. Could this be the film that gets Burton back on track?
