You CAN'T have Han Solo without Chewbacca, right? Okay, maybe you can, and we'll have to get used to that reality going forward considering what happened in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, right? Well...maybe not.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to direct what we've always considered to be a young Han Solo movie, but now it appears he'll be joined by his walking carpet of a sidekick. Disney's Bob Iger confirmed it while discussing the Star Wars slate at Deutsche Bank‘s 24th Annual Media, Internet and Telecom Conference....
"We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie. And that’ll come after ‘Star Wars 8’ in 2018. And then there will possibly more thereafter.”
So this is an early story featuring both Han and Chewie, perhaps about how they met and became smuggling buddies? While there's a good bet Joonas Suotamo will suit up as Chewbacca just as he did in 'The Force Awakens', casting for Han Solo is very much up in the air. The most recent shortlist included Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen, and Blake Jenner. The film doesn't arrive until May 25th 2018, and you can bet Disney will be taking every possible moment to make sure they cast just the right actor.
